This past weekend, we hosted our first-ever Lions Alumni Day. The event brought together former Tallwood hoopers together from 2005 to 2019, all in one gym.
A Day to Remember
The event kicked off with an hour dedicated to bridging the gap between eras, allowing alumni from different years to meet and share their experiences. It was heartwarming to see the camaraderie and mutual respect among players who had once worn the same jersey.
Highlights of the Day
3 Point Challenge: A major highlight was the 3 Point Challenge, where DaSean Webster (’07) showcased his sharpshooting skills and emerged victorious.
Coach Appreciation Awards: We also took the opportunity to honor the dedicated coaches who have shaped the lives of so many young athletes. Coach Mitchell and Coach Taylor were both presented with Coach Appreciation Awards, recognizing their commitment and countless hours of dedication to the program.
Lions Legends: In a special ceremony, we celebrated three Lions Legends—Darius James (’07), Jarrett Jernigan (’09), and Ty Thomas (’11). Each of these outstanding alumni received custom jerseys and trophies, commemorating their significant contributions and achievements during their time with the Lions.
The Game: The day culminated in an exciting basketball game where the Purple team dominated with an 84-65 win. Adrian Beasley (’17) was named MVP, capping off an exhilarating performance that reminded everyone why the Lions are a force to be reckoned with.
Building a Stronger Community
Lions Alumni Day was more than just a reunion; it was a celebration of the legacy, hard work, and dedication that define our program. It reinforced the strong sense of community and the lifelong connections that being a Lion fosters. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who participated.
Thank you to all the alumni who attended, shared their stories, and helped us create new memories. Once a Lion, always a Lion!
